What is involved?

The “Baby Brain” study requires participants to attend five total testing sessions over the course of the pre-conception period and into the third trimester of pregnancy. Specifically, participation would involve the following:

During the pre-conception period (0-12 months prior to falling pregnant):

Session 1: Complete an online demographic questionnaire at a time and location convenient to you.

Session 2: Attend one 1-1.5 hour computerised testing session to assess your cognitive functioning at Deakin University (Burwood).

Session 3: Attend one 2-3 hour neuropsychological testing session while undergoing an electroencephalograph (EEG). EEG as a safe and non-invasive tool often used in cognitive neuropsychology research to passively measure brainwaves recorded at the scalp. This session will be held at Deakin University (Burwood).

You will also be asked to notify our team when you fall pregnant, and to also track your weight during your pregnancy. Our team will provide you with a handy smartphone app to make this process as easy and as convenient for you as possible.

During  your first and third trimester of pregnancy:

You will be invited to attend a repeat of Sessions 2 and 3 (as above). This are noted as testing Sessions 4-7. Following the completion of these sessions, your participation in the “Baby Brain” study will be concluded.

At each testing session, you will go into the draw to win a $100 Coles-Myer gift voucher as a “Thank you” for your participation in the Baby Brain study.
